Goths are sooooo misunderstood in our society today by everyone from their teachers to their very own family. Here is a little guide to some misconceptions people have about goths. Hopefully this will help clear things up a little.
Or not.
Common Misconceptions about Goths. Written by PeterAmthor
Since most goths only 'think' they're vampiric, crosses don't hurt them.
This is incorrect. Crosses do hurt goths you just have to hit them with it hard enough. The size of the cross and the way the edges are made also aids in this action. Not to mention the faith of the person wielding it, if a person has a lot of faith in their ability to beat somebody senseless then they are probably going to cause a great deal of pain.
Goths only pretend to be depressive angst ridden individuals.
Actually most goths are depressive angst ridden individuals who are burdened with the fact that they are in falsely created sub genre of culture in which all those who are in are essentially posers who ran out of things to pose as. Also not to mention the cost of fitting into that culture costs quite a bit of cash at the local mall.
Goths only wear black.
Nope. Currently the color schemes they choose from range from Midnight Black, Jet Black, Black Stallion Black and Charcoal Black. They also were silver jewelry and white make-up.
All those who are goths are generally losers.
This is far from the truth. They are all winners; its just their standard of winning is pretty low compared to most other people or to society?s view of winning in general. Some examples of a goth 'win': Getting your white make up to apply evenly without light and dark patches, getting the right shade of black dye in your hair, finding the perfect black (insert piece of clothing here).
All Goths have a bleak dark outlook on life.
No they also have a bleak dark outlook on food, music, art, etc - not just life. At least that?s the way most of them act anyways. Secretly a lot of them probably watch old musicals and Lassie reruns or play on a Transformers MUSH.
Gothic is an attitude that cannot be described or seen.
Actually search the thousands upon thousands of websites dedicated to gothdom and you get a pretty good description of what goth is and what it looks like (and it?s pretty ugly). All of them using the same tag as above for some strange reason. I mean if it can?t be described or seen then why bother describing it and showing pics?
Goths aren't confrontational unless you are pushing your beliefs onto them.
Well almost true. Its just most goths have a different view of what pushing your beliefs are. Examples of pushing your beliefs according to goths: Wearing a cross necklace, wearing a Christian t-shirt, having a pro Jesus bumper sticker on your car, looking at them, going to church on Sundays, not wearing black, having your own sense of style, free thinking, not listening to the same music they listen to, ignoring them, breathing air, having a heart beat, etc.
Goths do not let outside influences change them.
Only going to bring up one outside influence out of the many here. Only one, one that they can do nothing about. Weather. Ever see a goth when it rains? Its either 'lets run inside before my white make up run all over me and turns my clothes something other than black' or 'I'll hang my head under this water drain and soak it down so it hangs down all cool like'. Sunny days are a killer. Soaking up all that heat in their black layered clothing watching them try not to sweat (which would make their white make up run all over them and turn their clothes something other than white) so they walk slow or don't even get out at all. Prethunderstorm they all flock outside to because all the thunder and lightening is so dark and gothic (funny sense I thought it was all natural and stuff).
